Lee Ryder, The Chronicle’s Chief Newcastle United writer believes the club may be tempted to turn Nabil Bentaleb’s loan into a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan from the Bundesliga club Schalke and made his first start since the resumption of the Premier League at Bournemouth on Wednesday night (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

His performance at the Vitality Stadium earned him a performance rating of 7.58/10 (via WhoScored.com) prompting a discussion in regards to whether or not Steve Bruce will be looking to keep the Algerian beyond the summer.

Speaking on the Everything is Black and White Podcast, Ryder said: “He’s playing for his future, I think it was an £8.6m deal on offer. Just with the way the transfer window is going I still think Newcastle will be tempted to buy him regardless of that [his performance at Bournemouth] because its a quick deal they can do and I still think there is a lot more to come from him. Hopefully, we’ll see that in the next six games.”

TIF Thoughts…

According to Lee Ryder, the Magpies would be able to secure his services for a fee of £8.6m and in the former Algerian international, Steve Bruce would be getting a player he knows all about.

However, it is unclear how the recent global pandemic will impact this summer’s transfer market and, as highlighted by the Newcastle correspondent, that could play a part in the club’s decision.

Bentaleb has made six appearances in the English top flight since arriving at St. James’ Park back in January and up until now, his average performance rating stands at 6.63/10 which we believe is fairly respectable given the small sample size.
