On the latest episode of The Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles and Ian McGarry have been discussing some of the big transfers that they think could happen in the summer window.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode was Manchester United winger Daniel James. The Welshman, who is now valued at £20.25 million (as per Transfermarkt), joined the Red Devils from Swansea last summer and was superb in the first few months for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, but has contributed just one goal and no assists since January. Castles seems to suggest that United could look to move the 22-year-old on this summer following his recent poor form.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about the winger on the podcast:

“They paid a reasonable fee for Dan James, who had an excellent start to the season, but has now fallen well down the pecking order. So I think they’ll make a profit on that deal if they have to sell him on, if he doesn’t continue to progress. There’s a question mark over whether that was a great piece of business for Manchester United in terms of strengthening their squad, and I think it’s no coincidence that they’re looking for a right-winger again and looking to spend very heavily on a right-winger this summer.”

TIF Thoughts…

Of course, as Castles alludes to, United have been heavily linked with a move for Jadon Sancho this summer, and if he were brought in, you would perhaps imagine that James would find game time very hard to come by. The 22-year-old made just one Premier League start following the season’s resumption last month, with Mason Greenwood’s superb form perhaps preventing him from getting a greater chance to impress.

Would you cash in on Dan James this summer?

No

Although the Welsh international has contributed a fairly solid three goals and six assists during his first top-flight season with Solskjaer’s side, from what Castles says, it would perhaps not be a surprise to see him moved on this summer, especially if United feel they can make a profit on the £15.3 million they paid for him last summer and source a more worthwhile replacement.
