Manchester United fan and pundit Stephen Howson recently appeared on Red Devils-focused YouTube channel ‘Stretford Paddock’ to discuss the latest transfer rumours surrounding the club, during which he spent some time talking about the possibility of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho moving to Old Trafford.

Howson referenced a story that was recently published by the Evening Standard, which stated that Dortmund ‘are drawing up plans should Jadon Sancho leave for Manchester United this summer’.

To kick off this 1990s Premier League quiz, which season was the Premier League's inaugural campaign?

This article from the Evening Standard includes some comments made to German publication Kicker by Dortmund’s sports director Michael Zorc recently, who said: “If Jadon were to leave, we would once again be active in strengthening our attack.”

Howson reacted to these comments during his transfer review, sharing that he believes Zorc’s comments indicate that Sancho could be on the move from the German club.

Howson then went on to share his thoughts on the likelihood of Sancho moving to Old Trafford following the latest reports linking the England international with the club, saying: “There’s so much talk about [Sancho joining United], loads of different places saying ‘look, things are happening’.

“[The] Bundesliga’s over now, there’s a little birdie in my ear saying Jadon Sancho’s over in London – do you know who else is in London? Ed Woodward and Matt Judge and Manchester United’s Mayfair office.

“There was a lot of posturing a couple of weeks ago, United were like ‘we’re not paying more than £50m,’ Dortmund saying – ‘well we want €120m,’ obviously it’s negotiation tactics from both sides.

“[There was a] little bit of talk yesterday that actually, Dortmund might be prepared to accept somewhere in the region of 80-90 million – that’s more like it.

“I reckon this can happen. There might be something to do with player sales, there might be things that we have to get off the wages – [Alexis] Sanchez perhaps – but I do think that this is a deal that Manchester United can [make] happen.”

TIF Thoughts…

As well as Zorc’s comments, this recent report from the Evening Standard shares that Sancho ‘is top of United’s wanted list this summer’.

With that in mind, as well as the fact that Zorc didn’t rule out the possibility of the winger leaving the German club this summer, it may be understandable why Howson shared some confidence over the possibility of this deal happening.
