Manchester United journalist Laurie Whitwell has revealed his thoughts on a potential summer transfer deal for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.
This comes after Whitwell recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast to talk about the latest news going on at Old Trafford.
On the topic of Grealish and the possibility of him joining the Manchester club this summer, Whitwell shared his take on the matter.
He said: “I do think it is linked to Paul Pogba, because I think if Paul Pogba were to go, then you’ve got an option there [and] you definitely need a creative midfielder, but if he stays, which is looking inevitable really – because who’s going to buy him in this current climate, and the fact that he does seem more excited by the prospect of playing at United, with these players, that front five now does look extremely encouraging for the future, given the average age of them.
“He’s clearly struck up a really good rapport with Bruno Fernandes. So, I think that does come into the debate over what positions United need to strengthen.”

Grealish has been one of Villa’s best players this season having picked up a season rating of 7.24/10 for his performances in the 31 Premier League appearances he has made for the club so far this season (per WhoScored).
In those appearances, Grealish has managed to score seven goals and provide six assists for Dean Smith’s side, despite them sitting in the relegation zone of the Premier League table.
However, despite Pogba only making 11 Premier League appearances for United so far this season, the Frenchman has been equally impressive having earned himself a season rating of 7.32/10 for his performances (per WhoScored).

Overall, it seems as though Whitwell believes that Pogba’s future at United will impact on whether or not the club will make a move for Grealish.
Looking at Grealish’s statistics this season, it’s understandable why United would be interested in snapping him up this summer.
