Manchester United journalist Laurie Whitwell has revealed the latest transfer news surrounding Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
This comes after Whitwell recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast to discuss the latest news concerning the Manchester club.
On the topic of Sancho and whether or not he is a transfer target for United this summer, Whitwell shared this news.
He said: “It’s going to be an interesting one for [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer to weigh up. I’m led to believe that he is still very much their prime target and I don’t think [Mason] Greenwood’s emergence in this way would affect that pursuit, because Solskjaer knows that to get a team that is going to challenge for the title, which is the ultimate ambition, you need quality and depth.
“So it can’t just be the case that United rely on [Marcus] Rashford, [Anthony] Martial and Greenwood to start every week and play as well as they have done in recent games. They’re going to need alternative players and I’m not saying Jadon Sancho is going to be an alternative player, far from it, but there’s going to be situations where you need quality in more than one area and Greenwood might move from right-wing to centre-forward or over to the left. It seems like quite a malleable frontline, but certainly, someone of Sancho’s quality would only enhance that and it’s up to the manager then, to keep them all happy if they’re all in the building.”

Sancho joined Dortmund from Manchester City back in 2017 for a fee of £7.05 million.
Since then, the Englishman, who is currently valued at £105.3 million according to Transfermarkt, has managed to score 34 goals and provide 43 assists in 99 appearances for the German club.
This season, in particular, has seen the 20-year-old in fantastic form having scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in 32 appearances in the Bundesliga. His performances in those appearances have earned him a season rating of 7.64/10, making him Dortmund’s highest-rated player for this campaign (per WhoScored).

Given how impressive how Sancho has been for Dortmund since his arrival in Germany in terms of his goals and assists record, it’s understandable why a club like United are targeting the winger to help them become a title-winning side in the future.
