Mark Critchley has been speaking on the latest episode of the Indy Football Podcast about the decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to overturn Manchester City’s ban from UEFA club competitions.

Critchley spent quite a lot of time talking about the whole process and revealed his thoughts on the future of Pep Guardiola.

Here is what he had to say about the City boss:

“You’ve got to remember that Pep Guardiola’s contract expires next summer. If the two-year ban had stood, then attempts to try and get him to re-negotiate and extend that stay would’ve been difficult, certainly.

“I think this [CAS decision] doesn’t necessarily improve those chances either, because we know what Pep’s like, he’s a guy who doesn’t stay around too long, three [or] four years generally and then moves on to the next project.”

So, it seems as if Critchley believes that even with the CAS verdict going in City’s favour, that does not necessarily mean that Guardiola will stay beyond the length of his current deal.

TIF Thoughts…

Since taking over at the Etihad, Guardiola has won 169 games alongside eight trophies for City, but as of yet, he has not won the Champions League with City.

However, CAS overturning the ban means that City can compete in the Champions League next season, so even if they fail to win it this season, they can try again next year before his contract expires.

The point about Guardiola moving on after three or four years is indeed accurate, as Guardiola spent three years at Bayern Munich following four years in charge of Barcelona’s first team.

So, it will be intriguing to see what happens with Guardiola’s future as his contract only has a year left to run.
