Journalist and broadcaster Julien Laurens has been discussing the recent reports claiming Manchester City have agreed personal terms with Valencia winger Ferran Torres.

Eurosport reported the news and speaking on ESPN FC, Laurens shared his view on Torres and whether or not he would be a good addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad.

He said: “[He is] one of the most gifted players of his generation, not just in Spain but in the whole of Europe. A player very like the ones that Pep Guardiola likes: very intelligent, great movement, a great understanding of the game, great awareness, very good on the ball as well, technically.

“A player of such quality with just one year left on his contract will become a bargain because he is easily someone who could cost you €100m. It could be a very good coup for City if they could get him.”

The 20-year-old has made 32 La Liga appearances for Valencia this season, producing four goals and four assists to date. He has also featured six times in the UEFA Champions League this season, scoring in the club’s last-16 second-leg defeat to Serie A side Atalanta.

Laurens has provided a glowing report on the 20-year-old, making it clear that in his view, he would be a good signing for the Citizens.

No

Torres is a current Spanish Under-21 international and according to WhoScored.com, his performances in La Liga this season have earned him an average match rating of 6.74/10. However, it is worth noting his rating in the Champions League stands at a much improved 7.47/10.

The journalist made reference to what he believes to be a €100m release clause in Torres’ contract, but given that the player’s value is said to be £40.5m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) and that his contract expires in June 2021, we suspect he may be correct in suggesting City may be able to land themselves a ‘bargain’.
