According to recent reports, Manchester City have enquired with Barcelona about the possibility of signing Antoine Griezmann.

However, it is reported that City were met with a hard no from the Catalan side, who stated that they have no intention of selling Griezmann to Manchester City or any other club this summer.

According to Sport Witness, Barca have made it clear the 29-year-old “will ‘not enter into any trade’ this summer as their ‘desire’ is that he becomes one of the key players in their team.”

TIF Thoughts…

It is a fair assessment to make that the World Cup winner has not quite hit the heights of his Atletico Madrid days since joining Barcelona for a fee of £108 million last summer.

So far this season, Griezmann has managed just eight goals and has provided four assists over his 32 appearances in La Liga, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.98.

The 29-year-old, who is now valued at £86.4 million (as per Transfermarkt), has performed even more disappointingly in the Champions League this term, scoring two goals over seven appearances in the competition, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.54.

In total, including domestic cup competitions, the forward has managed 14 goals for Barcelona this season.

However, it would seem that, despite this rather ropey debut season with the club, Barcelona intend to keep Griezmann around a little longer, meaning that Guardiola will have to turn his search in another direction if he would like to improve his front line this summer.
