LFC Daytrippers panellist Grizz Khan has been discussing the left-back situation at Liverpool on a recent edition of the podcast.

Other than Andrew Robertson, Jurgen Klopp doesn’t have another recognised left-back in his first-team squad and it appears Yasser Larouci who has featured twice for the Reds in the FA Cup this season (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) is on his way out of the club.

Neco Williams, a young right-back, has featured in five of Liverpool’s last six Premier League games and at Brighton earlier this month, the 19-year-old played at left-back but Khan doesn’t believe Klopp will see him as a long-term understudy to Robertson and revealed that he believes the club has made enquiries regarding a number of players and named one of them.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

He said: “We’re not going to be using Neco Williams at left-back as an understudy to Robbo [Andrew Robertson], and Milner just can’t play there anymore. I think we’ll definitely bring in a left-back and I definitely think we’ve made enquiries for a few players, which gives me more confidence we’re going to bring in a left-back.”

Following his initial comments, the panellist was asked to reveal who he understands the club to have made enquiries regarding, to which he responded: “Jamal Lewis of Norwich City.”

TIF Thoughts…

Jamal Lewis is 22 years old and has made 27 appearances for Norwich City in the Premier League this season (via WhoScored.com). His average performance rating in the English top flight currently stands at 6.49/10 but we believe it is important to note how much the Canaries have struggled this season as a team when judging the player on this rating.

Despite Norwich’s unsuccessful campaign, the fact that he has been capped by his country and reportedly courted by the likes of Liverpool (via the Echo) and Spurs (via Bild) across the last few months suggests that Lewis certainly has a bright future.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the left-back is valued at £9.9m but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will make their move for the Northern Ireland international this summer with a view to him providing cover for Robertson.
