Speaking recently on The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, Paul MacInnes claimed that Liverpool should consider selling Sadio Mane in order to bring in Kylian Mbappe.

Since arriving at Liverpool from Southampton in what was a £37.08 million deal back in 2016, Mane has gone on to thrive for the Reds, scoring a remarkable 80 goals and providing 34 assists in 168 appearances for the club.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

This season – in which Liverpool have already been crowned league champions – the Senegal international has so far scored 17 Premier League goals and has provided seven assists, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.46/10 – ranking him as the club’s best performer.

However, in recent comments made on The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, MacInnes stated his belief that Liverpool should sell their star man this summer, in order to path the way for the signing of PSG star Mbappe.

He said: “I think the one [transfer] I would say: sell Mane, get Mbappe – to the same team, do a deal with PSG.

“Get Mbappe and that would [bring] a next-level buzz around the club. You’d regenerate the forward line – a kid [Mbappe] who would absolutely thrive on playing under [Jurgen] Klopp. If I was going to go for a fantasy signing, that’s why I’d say.”

TIF Thoughts…

With Mane currently valued at £108 million and Mbappe at £162 million, it would seem that if Liverpool were to offer some kind of swap deal to PSG, they may still have to pay a considerable fee, as well as offering Mane.

However, considering Mbappe (21) is seven years younger than Mane (28), it may well be worth the cost, as well as given that the PSG forward is one of the most exciting prospects in world football, having scored an astonishing 90 goals and provided 49 assists in just 120 appearances for the French club.
