Joe Rimmer of the Liverpool Echo has been discussing the future of Divock Origi during a recent episode of the Blood Red podcast

Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated the Premier League this season, finishing an incredible 18 points ahead of their closest challengers and the 2018/19 champions Manchester City (via premierleague.com). With the season now over for the Reds, attentions turn towards what the summer may bring in terms of transfer activity and Rimmer has suggested that the club should be considering moving the player on.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

He said: “For me now, I just think that the time might be right for Liverpool to cash in on him and try and find somebody, even if it’s a [Rhian] Brewster who can come in and have something to fight for, because I think [Divock] Origi will know in his heart of hearts he’s never going to be a first-team regular at Liverpool.”

TIF Thoughts…

The Belgian international striker was limited to just seven Premier League starts last season, despite making 28 appearances in the competition in total (via WhoScored.com). According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Origi holds a value of £14.4m and therefore if Liverpool do decide to sell him this summer, based on that, they could receive a reasonable fee.

Is now the time right to cash in on Divock Origi?

Rimmer mentions Rhian Brewster as a potential replacement for the 25-year-old and suggests that he would feel he has more to fight for than Origi when he returns from his loan spell at Swansea City.

When Liverpool’s regular front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all available, Jurgen Klopp rarely selects anybody else but it remains to be seen if that would change in the event the club were to bring in some more competitive alternatives.
