2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

As per The Mirror, Liverpool’s goalscorer Robertson approached referee David Coote and the linesmen at full time, with the £57.6m-rated left-back sharing some frustration with the officials after he was not awarded a penalty late on. The article from The Mirror claims that the referee was subjected to an ‘X-rated rant’ from the Scotsman.

During this recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, Brennan asked Lee if he thinks that Liverpool fans are ‘bothered about’ Robertson’s conduct, to which the Athletic journalist replied: “Why would they care? Where’s this suggestion come from?

“All those players that are like that – Ander Herrera at Man United, when he, supposedly, accidentally spat on the [Manchester City] badge at the Etihad – did any United fan think ‘oh, that’s a bit far’? No, you just love it, that’s just the nature of football.

“When Bernardo Silva didn’t clap Liverpool last week, the City fans were loving it, Liverpool fans were hating it. If it was the other way around, it would be the other way around.

“There’s no right to be outraged because this is just how football works. If you’ve got a player like that and you love him for that, you’re not going to change your mind when he swears at the ref because for a start, the Liverpool fans are going to be thinking the same thing, anyway. They’re going to be thinking we should’ve had a penalty and the refs are idiots and he’s right for telling them, so no, they’re not going to care.

“I’m not a big fan of Robertson either, but that’s just it, that’s the nature, isn’t it? He’s obviously a great player, but the way he goes about it winds me up. If I was a Liverpool fan, I would love it. So, I wouldn’t expect him to change, I’ve got no problem with it, and there’s no way Liverpool fans have either.”

TIF Thoughts…

It may be understandable why Lee believes that Liverpool fans may be unlikely to have a problem with their left-back criticising the referee after not being awarded a penalty last weekend, as this may show how much the player cares. Furthermore, as the journalist explained, Reds fans may also have been in agreement with him and might have been happy to see Robertson air his frustrations after the 1-1 draw.
