Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler is reportedly interested in taking the role as head coach at Birmingham City.

This comes after it was published in a recent article from the Birmingham Mail that Fowler is ‘interested’ in replacing Pep Clotet at the club. It was announced yesterday that Clotet had stepped down from his position at the club having previously been expected to depart at the end of the campaign.

Blues have been searching for a new manager since it was initially announced in early June that Clotet would be leaving the club at the end of the season (per BBC).

The article also added that Fowler ‘would be keen to talk to the Championship club’ regarding the manager position.

However, they also claim that ‘there has been no contact with the 45-year-old who is a free agent after leaving his position with Brisbane Roar’ concerning the position.

As a player, Fowler signed his first professional contract with Liverpool back in 1992 after working his way through the youth system at the Merseyside club.

Fowler made a total of 369 appearances for the Reds in which he managed to score 183 goals along the way.

As a manager, Fowler spent a year as head coach of Australian team Brisbane Roar in which he took charge of 24 matches and picking up a points-per-game average of 1.58 (per Transfermarkt).

As for Birmingham City, they currently sit in 17th position in the Championship table with 49 points from 42 league games played (per BBC Sport).

TIF Thoughts…

It’s good to hear that Fowler is reportedly interested in returning to England to further his managing career. Whether or not he will get the job is still yet to be seen.

However, given how much of a prominent figure he was as a player for Liverpool, you would think that the majority of Liverpool fans would be happy to see him get the job and succeed in it.
