LFC Daytrippers panellist @AYPrivateEye has been discussing how Bayern Munich’s David Alaba would fit into Jurgen Klopp’s side if the Reds were to land him.

According to a report in The Telegraph last month, a number of Premier League clubs have been put ‘on alert’ with the German champions considering selling the player this summer as opposed to losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Liverpool are said to be one of those clubs monitoring Alaba’s situation (Daily Mail via Sports Mole). The 28-year-old’s current contract only has until June 2021 to run and up until now, the club and the player have been unable to agree on an extension.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

The Austrian has been a regular for the German champions this season, starting in 79% of their Bundesliga fixtures and making 28 appearances in total (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). The vast majority of his appearances this season have come at centre-back, despite Alaba being widely thought of as a left-back and according to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating in the league this season currently stands at 6.99/10.

Speaking on a recent edition of the podcast when the defender was being discussed, @AYPrivateEye said: “David Alaba could sign for us and I’m not joking you, he’d be our best left-back, our second-best centre-back and our best midfielder – that’s the type of footballer that you’re talking about, that’s how good he is.”

TIF Thoughts…

Alaba arrived in Munich from Austria Vienna back in 2008 and having worked his way up through the ranks into the first team, he has gone on to make 382 appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing 48 assists (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

The player, despite being about to enter into the final year of his contract, still holds a market value of £58.5m and therefore we can assume Bayern Munich will demand a substantial amount of money from any side that comes in for him this summer.
