LFC Daytrippers panellist Grizz Khan has been discussing whether or not it would make sense for the club to try and move Georginio Wijnaldum on this summer on a recent episode of the podcast.

The Dutch midfielder’s contract is due to expire at the end of next season and as of yet, there has been no news with regards to an extension being agreed between the club and the player. Liverpool signed Wijnaldum from Newcastle United back in July 2016 in a deal reportedly worth £24.75m (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Khan was asked to provide his take on the possibility of the 29-year-old leaving the club, to which he responded: “From a business point of view, if someone offered £30m to FSG and with Gini coming up to 30 now, in his last year of his contract, he probably wants a proper lucrative last contract – and maybe we can’t see us giving him that lucrative last contract – then it would be a possibility and I think FSG would consider it.”

TIF Thoughts…

Wijnaldum has played a key role for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds this season, starting in 92% of their Premier League fixtures to date and scoring three goals. According to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating stands at 6.78/10 but perhaps a better indicator of his importance is the regularity with which he is being selected.

Would you sell Wijnaldum for £30m?

No

The player’s transfer value according to Transfermarkt.co.uk is £36m, therefore you could argue, the possibility of somebody offering £30m to sign the player appears to be a realistic one. Fabrizio Romano, an Italian sports journalist recently reported that Liverpool are ‘confident’ of agreeing a contract extension with Wijnaldum but as previously stated, we’ve yet to have an official announcement with regards to the former PSV Eindhoven star’s future.
