Neil Atkinson has been discussing Liverpool forward Divock Origi on a recent edition of The Anfield Wrap podcast.

The 25-year-old signed for the Reds back in 2014 from the Ligue 1 side Lille but was loaned back to the French outfit as well as spending some time in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg prior to becoming a part of the club’s first-team plans (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

The Belgian has scored some huge goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side over the years, in particular, the one that sealed the club’s victory in the UEFA Champions League final in Madrid back in June 2019. When assessing what he brings to the Liverpool side, Atkinson was highly complimentary of the player’s goalscoring ability and made a bold claim with regards to what Origi could achieve if he were to join another Premier League club.

He said: “I think that he could conceivably move somewhere, stay in the Premier League – if he got into a top-ten side, he could outscore [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah I think potentially, the flip-side of it is that he makes the quality of the football poorer.”

Do you think Origi would be a success as a regular starter elsewhere in the Premier League?

TIF Thoughts…

Since joining the Reds, Origi has scored 34 goals and provided 12 assists in 140 appearances (via Transfermarkt.co.uk). Despite appearing in 28 of Liverpool’s 38 Premier League fixtures this season, the striker has been limited to just seven starts in the competition.

We believe it unlikely that he would outscore Mane or Salah given the pair have managed 45 goals between them in all competitions this season, however, it is fair to make the case Origi may benefit from more minutes and a regular starting position elsewhere.
