Liverpool journalist Ian Doyle has shared the latest injury update concerning the Merseyside club.

This comes after Doyle recently made an appearance on the latest episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast to reflect on the Reds’ 4-0 thrashing against Manchester City.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

During the episode, as Doyle was sharing his thoughts on the match, he shared some information regarding the fitness of Reds defender Dejan Lovren.

He said: “I mentioned Joe Gomez, he got substituted at half time. He’d been booked for the foul on Raheem Sterling for the penalty. And Jurgen Klopp had been asked afterwards about why he substituted him, he said it’s because he was booked and he couldn’t afford to lose another centre-back with Joel Matip injured and Dejan Lovren also seemingly injured – he wasn’t on the bench this evening.”

Will Dejan Lovren be a big miss for Liverpool?

No

So far this season, Lovren has made a total of just 15 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s team across all competitions in which he has managed to score one goal and provide one assist along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Lovren’s performances in his 10 Premier League appearances so far this year have earned him a season rating of 7.09/10, making him Liverpool’s eighth-highest rated player for this campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

With Matip out injured and now Lovren potentially out of action too, it’s understandable why Klopp took Gomez off the pitch when he did after picking up a yellow card earlier on in the defeat.

The hope for Klopp now would be that Lovren’s potential absence isn’t a long one so he can provide an extra option in the Reds’ defensive line for their remaining Premier League fixtures.
