2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

It was recently reported that Liverpool are planning to take up an option to extend Lovren’s contract by another year and keep him at Anfield until summer 2022.

On the topic of Lovren and his future at Liverpool, Pearce shared his thoughts on the matter.

He said: “Essentially, Lovren has got two years left; Liverpool are prepared to sell him, there’s no question about that.

“I think [it’s] fair to say Lovren is someone who has certainly polarised opinion and taken a fair bit of stick during six years at Liverpool, lots of ups, lots of downs.

“I’ve always felt that he gets an unfair amount of stick and he’s a lot better than a lot of people have given him credit for, and it’ll be intriguing to see how Liverpool do fill the gap, because although they’ve got some really talented, young centre-halves coming through, I don’t think there’s one there at the moment you’d be able to say ‘yes, he would be a suitable fourth-choice centre-back going into next season’.”

Should Liverpool sell Dejan Lovren this summer?

Lovren, who is currently valued at £14.4 million according to Transfermarkt, first signed for Liverpool back in 2014 from Southampton for a fee of £22.77 million (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, the Croatia international has gone on to make 185 appearances for the Reds in which he has managed to score eight goals and provide five assists along the way.

However, this season has seen Lovren make just 10 appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League.

TIF Thoughts…

Considering how Lovren has only made 10 league appearances for Liverpool so far this season, this shows that he is not a crucial figure in Klopp’s side and that the club could be open to letting him go this summer.

Even if the club do decide to let Lovren leave this summer, it’s still nice to hear Pearce share his support for the defender and what he has done for the club during his time at Anfield.
