In a recent off-script episode of the Sky Sports Football Podcast, former Manchester United man Gary Neville has been full of praise for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The recent episode, which was titled ‘Off Script: Neville – How to retain the title‘, features the former right-back discussing Liverpool’s title-winning season, and what they need to do to stay in the running next season.

Here’s what the 45-year-old had to say about Jurgen Klopp and the influence he has had at the Merseyside club:

“Liverpool obviously were in a deep rut over many, many years, understanding that they’ve got a great fanbase, the club have history and had success and you can never write clubs like that off, but to go and win a league title in front of the investment of Chelsea, of [Manchester] City, of Manchester United, I just didn’t think was possible and what he’s done there over three or four-year period, was absolutely outstanding.

“Everything at a football club comes from a manager, he sets the tone for everybody: the fanbase, the ownership, he sets the tone for the players. He’s basically galvanised Liverpool over a three-year period.”

TIF Thoughts…

For someone who played at Manchester United for so long, it was perhaps not easy for Neville to admit that Klopp has done a superb job with the Reds. Since taking over in October 2015, the former Borussia Dortmund manager has taken charge of 262 games, winning 160, drawing 57, and losing 45 (per Transfermarkt).

In that time, the German coach has delivered Champions League success and a Premier League title to the club, something Neville clearly felt wasn’t possible.
