Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has been talking about the club’s potential chase of a striker in the summer transfer window.

Part of a Rodgers interview was featured on the latest episode of the Leicester City Football Forum podcast, as he discussed many things about the club. One thing he talked about was whether the club would want to sign a forward.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

The club used a two-striker formation in their recent 3-0 win over Crystal Palace. Both Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho started in that game, with Vardy scored a brace and Iheanacho also getting a goal for himself.

While talking on the podcast, Rodgers revealed that while they are currently assessing their striker options, he is focused on the players that they already have in the team.

He said: “Kelechi has done absolutely brilliant in my time here. When I came in, he was a young player that needed confidence, but as he’s gained the confidence of the players and the supporters here, you’ve seen his strengths. He can score goals, he’s still got more to improve on but he’s a great lad who trains every day, loves his football and he’s a real threat every time he plays.

Do Leicester City need a new striker?

Yes, surely

“We’ll look at the squad. We are looking currently obviously, at the end of the season we will be also. Because each year and each season you want to improve, but at the moment, the focus is purely on the players that we have.”

Rodgers isn’t quite open about whether the Foxes will sign a striker or not in the summer, but he seems to be keeping his options open in that regard.

TIF Thoughts…

Vardy has found the back of the net 21 times in the Premier League this season and while that is a league-high return, apart from him, no one else has reached double digits when it comes to scoring goals – with Iheanacho only scoring five league goals this year so far (via WhoScored).

Also, Vardy is 33 and not getting any younger. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2022. So perhaps it will be wise for Leicester to sign another striker who can score on a regular basis and make sure that they don’t miss Vardy’s goals as he approaches the latter years of his career.
