Steve McNorton and Marley Anderson joined Jim Salveson on a recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, where they spent some time discussing the quality of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Salveson brought up the topic of Everton’s quality when he asked McNorton, a Liverpool fan, whether or not there are players within the Toffees’ squad that he covets.

To start this quiz on Richarlison with an easy one, how much did the Toffees pay to secure the Brazilian's services including potential future fees?

McNorton responded to Salveson’s question by sharing praise for some members of Everton’s squad, however, he did also have some critical words for the Toffees’ £25.2m-rated goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.

McNorton said: “The big question mark I have with Everton is [the] goalkeeper. The goalkeeper is dreadful. Jordan Pickford is horrendous and he makes too many mistakes for that team.

“I think the defence isn’t too bad; they’ve got Mason Holgate and Michael Keane at centre-back, who do a job for them, they’ve got Lucas Digne at left-back, who’s really good – it’s all there for Everton.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by his comments on this recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, it appears as though McNorton believes that Pickford is the weak link in the Toffees’ defence at present.

The England international has earned an average overall rating of just 6.41/10 from his 33 Premier League appearances this term according to WhoScored, making him Everton’s joint-fifth-lowest-rated player in England’s top flight at present, with 17 Everton players earning a higher average overall rating than him this season.

Furthermore, WhoScored also claims that Pickford’s concentration is a weakness in his game – which may not be ideal for a goalkeeper, whose concentration may be valuable for his team. With all of this in mind, it may be understandable why McNorton believes that the Merseyside club could improve in this department.
