An update on Everton’s pursuit of LOSC Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes has suggested that the transfer saga may be nearing its conclusion.

According to a report from Sky Sports, it is believed that the Brazilian ‘is expected’ to decide where his future is going to be this week.

Currently, it is both the Toffees and Serie A outfit Napoli that are the ‘frontrunners’ to secure the 22-year-old’s signature from his Ligue 1 club.

To start this quiz on Richarlison with an easy one, how much did the Toffees pay to secure the Brazilian's services including potential future fees?

However, as revealed by Sky Sports, there is a potential spanner in the works as an unnamed Premier League club have recently made an offer for Magalhaes.

This club has supposedly made an offer in excess of £22m for the centre-back.

The Brazilian currently has three years remaining on his contract with Lille and a market value of £15.75m, according to Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

Should Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit be able to come out on top of Napoli and the unnamed Premier League club, Magalhaes’ stats suggest that the Toffees will have made an impressive capture.

Over the 2019/20 season, the 22-year-old was Lille’s fourth-best-performing player in Ligue 1 with a solid 6.93/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

Had the defender replicated the same form for Everton in the Premier League this season, then he would also have been their fourth-best player.

Would you be pleased if the Toffees signed Gabriel Magalhaes from LOSC Lille?

Taking a closer look at the Brazilian’s defensive statistics in comparison with Michael Keane, though, and Magalhaes looks like a mixed bag.

In the league this season, Keane has made 1 tackle and 1.4 interceptions per match, whereas Magalhaes made 1.7 tackles and 0.9 interceptions.

However, the 22-year-old seems to be more of a ball-playing centre-back, as he had made 61.8 passes per match on average, with Keane having made far fewer with 42.5.

It is still clear from his statistics, though, that the player has his strengths and perhaps under Ancelotti, those could be honed due to the player still being fairly young.
