The Liverpool Echo reporter Sam Carroll has slated the performances of Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

On Sunday, Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit crumbled at Molineux and suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves.

For their roles in the clash, Sigurdsson and Davies were both awarded 5/10 performance ratings for their efforts in midfield (per Liverpool Echo).

In the latest episode of Royal Blue: The Everton FC Podcast, Carroll slated the two midfielders for their performances against the Old Gold.

To start this quiz on Richarlison with an easy one, how much did the Toffees pay to secure the Brazilian's services including potential future fees?

He said: “When you’ve got the kind of players we have, especially in midfield, Sigurdsson and Davies, [it was] possibly one of the worst central midfield performances I’ve ever seen. Not just for Everton, [the worst] ever in a Premier League game.

“I thought it was bizarre how bad it was. I just don’t know how you are going to get a tune of them.

“I’m genuinely almost worried by… what must Carlo be thinking? Okay, it’s not like you can compare our lads to lads who play for PSG and the great AC Milan and Real Madrid teams, but he must be going home after some of these matches and just thinking, ‘What have I walked into here, then?’

“There’s a few lads like [Sigurdsson] at the moment who’ve got reputations and they’re kind of slowly just fading away, aren’t they?”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he gave a very damning review of Sigurdsson’s and Davies’ performances against Wolves, which also gave him concerns over what Ancelotti may be thinking.

Does Carlo Ancelotti need to sign a brand new midfield partnership in the summer?

Yes, he definitely does

Yes, he definitely does

No, that's not necessary

No, that's not necessary

While Davies has been the ninth-worst performer for Everton in the league this season, Sigurdsson has actually been the Toffees’ ninth-best performer, according to WhoScored.

So, perhaps the Icelandic middleman has been delivering better performances this season than he has been given credit for, while Davies’ criticism is perhaps more justified.
