The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland has aired his thoughts regarding whether or not Everton will be signing Djibril Sidibe on a permanent transfer.

The French full-back arrived at Goodison Park last summer on a season-long loan deal from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco (per BBC).

In the loan agreement, the Toffees had the option to purchase the defender for £12.8m should they wish, however, despite extending his loan deal last month the club let the option to buy elapse (per Liverpool Echo).

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s Gwlad Tidings podcast, Boyland aired his thoughts on the 27-year-old Frenchman when discussing who will be Everton’s first-choice right-back next season.

To start this quiz on Richarlison with an easy one, how much did the Toffees pay to secure the Brazilian's services including potential future fees?

He said: “I know those debates will be had at the end of the season when everything’s done and dusted, when they can make a decision, they can sit down and effectively assess the merits of Jonjoe [Kenny], of Seamus [Coleman], of [Djibril] Sidibe and look to take it from there.

“I suppose the only decision that’s been made is that Everton haven’t offered to buy out Sidibe’s contract; they haven’t offered to pay the pre-agreed figure of £12m that had been part of the loan deal.

“So, that tells you something – that they’re not overly convinced – but it doesn’t tell you whether they might, for example, want another loan deal, I don’t know.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, it seems that those at the club are not totally convinced that Sidibe should be signed by the Toffees permanently.

However, with Sidibe having been Everton’s third-best performer in the league this season with a 6.94/10 average rating prior to their meeting with Aston Villa (per WhoScored), the Frenchman has surely shown himself to have a solid level of ability.
