Everton are reportedly eyeing a transfer swoop for Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings in the summer transfer window.

According to the Sunday Mirror, as cited by the Birmingham Mail, the Toffees have entered the race to sign the 27-year-old centre-back.

However, the fee that Everton may pay to sign Mings is dependant upon which division the Villans will be in next season, as they currently sit 19th in the Premier League table, four points from safety with three games left to play.

Everton are not alone in their interest in signing the English defender, though, as Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on the player.

However, as stated in the Birmingham Mail’s report, Mings remains committed to Dean Smith’s side for now.

The 27-year-old former Bournemouth man currently has three years left on his contract at Villa Park and a market value of £20.25m, according to Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

When considering Mings’ statistics for the season so far, it would seem that the defender would not make for all that much of a positive acquisition for Carlo Ancelotti.

Over 30 league outings this term, the centre-back has earned an uninspiring 6.61/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

Had the 27-year-old earned the same average rating for the Toffees in the league this season, then he would only be their 10th-best performer.

In comparison with Everton counterpart Michael Keane, Mings looks even worse as the centre-back has scored better in key defensive statistics.

This season, Keane has made 1 tackle and 1.4 interceptions per league match (per WhoScored), whereas Mings has made just 0.5 tackles and 1.0 interception per game.

So, if Ancelotti is planning to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer, he may be better served looking elsewhere for them.
