Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Alex Iwobi picked up a hamstring injury in the 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

The Italian manager spoke to Patrick Davison on the Sky Sports Football Podcast following the defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and shed some light on his decision to sub the former Arsenal man. Anthony Gordon replaced the Nigerian international at half-time, and it appears that it was due to an injury.

To start this quiz on Richarlison with an easy one, how much did the Toffees pay to secure the Brazilian's services including potential future fees?

Here’s what Ancelotti had to say about the 24-year-old:

“I wanted to use fresh legs for the game, Iwobi had a little problem on his hamstring and so I took him out and after that, I put [on a] fresh player for the end of the game.”

TIF Thoughts…

Everton signed Iwobi from Arsenal for an initial £27.36 million last summer but has struggled to have much impact in his first season with the Toffees; having contributed just two goals and one assist in 26 appearances for the Toffees (per Transfermarkt).

Who would you like to see start ahead of Iwobi?

Despite his disappointing average rating of 6.61 so far this season in the top-flight, the winger has started every game since the restart for Ancelotti’s side, however, without knowing the full extent of his hamstring problem, it seems as if he will be a doubt for the Toffees’ next game against Southampton on Thursday.

Potentially losing the Nigerian winger is a blow for Ancelotti when you consider that he has been a regular since the restart, however, the 61-year-old does have the likes of Gordon and Bernard available to step in as possible replacements.
