In a recent statement made on the Crystal Palace website, the club announced that highly sought-after midfielder Jadan Raymond has signed a two-year scholarship deal with the south London club, despite reported talks with Leeds United.

It had been previously been reported that the midfielder was in ‘advanced talks’ with Leeds United, who were hopeful that ‘the promise of a pathway’ to first-team football would convince the 16-year-old to sign for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, while it was believed that ‘the path to the first-team at Palace would be a slow one’.

However, despite these reports, as well as the fact that Raymond had ‘informed the club of his intention to leave’, the Eagles confirmed on Tuesday that the midfielder has now signed a two-year scholarship deal with Palace.

TIF Thoughts…

The news of Raymond’s decision to stay at Palace shortly follows the club’s announcement that the Premier League has awarded Crystal Palace’s academy Category 1 status – which is the highest possible award for academies in England.

Whether or not Raymond’s decision has anything to do with this news regarding Palace’s academy remains to be seen, however, the fact that the club were able to convince the player to stay with them – despite the player receiving offers from elsewhere, as well as it made clear that Raymond had previously wished to leave – is undoubtedly a huge boost for the club.
