According to recent reports, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion are set to battle for the summer signing of Feyenoord winger, Gio-Renys Felicia.

The report by Football Insider claims that the 16-year-old is ‘one of the most exciting young talents in Holland’ who is ‘known for his pace and trickery’, and impressed in his seven appearances for Feyenoord’s U17 side this term – scoring one goal and providing two assists – with it being expected that the winger is to be included in the Feyenoord first-team as of next season.

The news of Palace’s interest in Felicia comes following a report by The Athletic which claimed that the club ‘plan to actively recruit younger players’ over the coming transfer window in an attempt to bring their squad’s average age down as they are currently the oldest team in the Premier League at present.

TIF Thoughts…

While it is difficult to judge the ability and potential suitability of Felicia to the Crystal Palace squad due to the winger’s lack of professional appearances, this very fact is, in our opinion, a good sign of things to come in South London.

With Palace’s permanent signings this season being 28-year-old James McCarthy, 27-year-old Jordan Ayew, 31-year-old Stephen Henderson and 33-year-old Gary Cahill, it would seem as if the club were very much looking to consolidate their position in the league this season – which they did successfully – by signing experienced players, rather than thinking too far into the future.

Do you believe it is a good sign that Palace are looking for youth prospects this summer?

However, with this latest interest in Felicia, as well as reported interest in 18-year-old Armel Bella-Kotchap, in addition to the signing of England U20 international Nathan Ferguson, it would seem as if Palace are indeed now looking to the future. This, in our opinion, is a very good sign for the club.
