It has been claimed that Crystal Palace, along with Sheffield United and Leeds United, are interested in the summer signing of Newell’s Old Boys midfielder Jeronimo Cacciabue.

According to Contrasena Futbol reporter Hernan Cabrera, the three clubs are interested in a move for the 22-year-old central midfielder, who made eight appearances in the 2019/20 Superliga, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

From his stats, it would appear that Cacciabue is a very well rounded midfielder, as his average defensive stats of 2.8 tackles, one interception and one clearance per game balance with his average attacking stats of 1.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game quite nicely.

This is reflected in the midfielder’s versatility, as WhoScored note that Cacciabue can operate from defensive or central midfield.

In addition to this, the 22-year-old seems like a consistently impressive performer, with his average WhoScored match rating sitting at 7.00 over the course his league appearances this season, ranking him as the club’s eighth-best performer.

TIF Thoughts…

Although the Palace central midfield is arguably one of the most congested positions in their squad at present with Luka Milivojevic, Cheikhou Kouyate, James McArthur and James McCarthy all capable of operating from one of defensive or central midfield, the average age of these four players is 30-years-old.

As such, the introduction of a 22-year-old such as Cacciabue could indeed provide Palace with an injection of youth and freshness the position.

And with the player currently being valued at a modest £1.62 million, it would seem that a deal for the Argentinian could be a relatively cost-effective one for Palace too, should they manage to fend off Sheffield United and Leeds.
