Speaking recently on the Euro Football Daily YouTube show, host Dougie Critchley claimed that Juventus are interested in the summer signing of Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette should they fail with a move for Wolves’ Raul Jimenez.

Since moving to Arsenal from Olympique Lyon in what was a £47.7 million deal back in 2017, the French forward has gone on to make 125 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 48 goals and providing 24 assists.

And despite Arsenal’s poor league campaign this season – with the club sitting in 10th place in the Premier League, one point behind the likes of Sheffield United and Burnley – Lacazette has still performed admirably.

The 29-year-old has bagged 10 goals and provided four assists over his 29 appearances in the league, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.92 – ranking him as the club’s sixth-best performer this season.

It would appear that this form has led to interest in the French international, with Critchley claiming on the Euro Football Daily YouTube show that Juventus are keen on the signing of Lacazette as a backup plan if they fail to secure the signing of Raul Jimenez from Wolves.

He said: “There is also a backup option should Juventus fail in their pursuit of Raul Jimenez, and it’s Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette.

“Like the Mexican, the Frenchman is also 29 years old, but is enjoying a far more modest campaign in comparison, with 12 goals in all competitions in the Gunners’ underwhelming season. But, as ever, there is a catch. If Juventus want to bring someone in, they have to make money on a sale first.”

TIF Thoughts…

While it would seem from Critchley’s comments that Lacazette is by no means the first-choice signing of the Bianconeri, if the Italian giants are unable to convince Jimenez to make the move to Turin, they will then turn their attention to north London and Lacazette.

And while it remains to be seen whether or not the Frenchman would be open to a move away from the Gunners, either way, the deal would likely cost Juventus a considerable amount, as Lacazette is currently valued at £43.20 million by Transfermarkt.

In any case, if Critchley’s prediction is correct that Juventus make a move for Jimenez this summer, it would seem likely that Arsenal, and their fans, will be keeping a very close eye on the deal.
