Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has been discussing Mesut Ozil’s future during a recent video on his YouTube channel.

The German World Cup winner hasn’t featured in a matchday squad for the Gunners since he was an unused substitute during the 2-0 victory over Southampton at St. Mary’s back in June (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Ozil has had very little impact this season, having only made 18 Premier League appearances, contributing just the one goal and two assists. Speaking to the Turkish media outlet Fanatik, as cited by Football365, the attacking midfielder’s agent Erkut Sogut said: “There’s a 90% chance he will leave Arsenal in 2021. Mesut to Asia, America or Turkey? Yes, maybe.”

Watts was reacting to Sogut’s comments regarding the ‘90%’ chance of Ozil leaving next summer and said: “I think it’s actually more than that, to be honest. I’m pretty sure it is going to be a 100% chance because Arsenal aren’t going to give Ozil a new contract. I don’t know where he’s plucked the 90% figure out of, because there is no way Arsenal are going to be giving Mesut Ozil a new deal.”

The north London club signed the former Real Madrid star back in September 2013 in a deal reportedly worth £42.3m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). His current deal with the Gunners is due to expire at the end of next season after having signed a mega-money extension back in February 2018 which saw him become the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

TIF Thoughts…

His agent’s comments suggest that he is not anticipating the club to seek an extension to his current contract but also appeared to rule out the possibility of him leaving this summer. It’s clear that Watts feels the same, therefore, it looks likely we will see Ozil run down the remainder of his contract.
