The Independent recently published a report claiming that West Bromwich Albion are ‘interested’ in Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard, with West Ham United and Everton also said to be targeting the player

This report from the Independent primarily focuses on West Ham’s interest in the player and the Independent claim that Irons manager David Moyes ‘is considering’ a move for the 27-year-old.

However, later on in this article, it is revealed that West Brom are also ‘interested’ in Lingard and are set to compete with the Hammers for the £15.75m-rated player’s signature.

The Red Devils academy product is currently set to become a free agent next summer and some reports have recently been linking him with a move away from the club, with Goal claiming that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lost confidence in the player.

If this claim is to be believed, then it mightn’t come as a surprise if United opt to cash in on the player this summer.

TIF Thoughts…

West Brom are currently sitting inside of the Championship’s automatic promotion places and with that in mind, it may be fair to say that they are in a promising position to secure promotion to the Premier League for the 2020/21 campaign at present.

As a result, it may be understandable why the Baggies might be targeting a player like Lingard, who has got plenty of experience in England’s top-flight, having made 20 or more Premier League appearances for Manchester United in each of the last five seasons.

However, according to WhoScored, Lingard has failed to make a single Premier League goal contribution this season. Furthermore, he has earned a lower average overall rating than 20 other United players in England’s top-flight this term.

With that in mind, despite his top-flight experience, Lingard’s recent lack of form could be concerning for any potential buyers and he could be a risky signing for the Baggies if they do follow through on their alleged interest in the player.
