Luke Hatfield and Joseph Masi discussed the latest goings-on with West Bromwich Albion during the most recent edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast. During the show, Masi revealed that he believes Bournemouth full-back Adam Smith would ‘be a good signing’ for the Baggies.

Hatfield and Masi spent some time discussing the players that they would sign for the Baggies from the Premier League’s current relegation-threatened sides in the event the Championship promotion contenders were to take their place in the top flight for next season.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

When discussing Bournemouth, Masi revealed that he would sign Cherries full-back Smith for Albion.

The journalist said: “A player I’ve always liked is Adam Smith, the full-back. I always think he’s like a ‘steady Eddie’. I just think he’s solid enough. He’s just a decent full-back, he’s no-frills, but he gets the job done.

“Adam Smith’s a good player, I think he’s been linked with Chelsea in the past. He can play right-back and left-back and he’s sort of equally happy at both, which could be huge for Albion, really, absolutely huge for them, obviously Nathan Ferguson-esque. I think he’d be a good signing.”

TIF Thoughts…

According to WhoScored, relegation-threatened Bournemouth have earned an average overall rating of 6.6 for their performances in England’s top tier this season. Meanwhile, Smith has earned an unspectacular overall rating of 6.55 from his 23 appearances for the club this term. This makes him the Cherries’ 11th-highest-rated player for the 2019/20 Premier League season.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that Smith has not been a standout player in the Premier League this term, however, Masi is right in saying that Smith has experience of playing in both full-back positions, and this versatility could be useful for the Baggies if they do earn promotion to the Premier League for the 2020/21 season, regardless of their alternative options in those areas.

Furthermore, Smith has made 143 Premier League appearances in his career and this level of top-flight experience could also be valuable for the Baggies if they can secure a place in the top tier.

With that in mind, it may be understandable why Masi believes that Smith would be a good addition to the Baggies’ squad.
