On the latest edition of The Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast, Joseph Masi and Luke Hatfield spent some time discussing Kieran Gibbs, following the 30-year-old West Bromwich Albion man’s latest injury setback.

Gibbs was removed from the pitch in the first half of West Brom’s 4-2 win over Hull City last weekend after the left-back ‘felt his hamstring go and required immediate medical attention,’ as per Birmingham Live

This isn’t the first injury that the 30-year-old ex-Arsenal man has suffered this season. He left the pitch in the first half of the Baggies’ 1-1 draw with Leeds United on New Year’s Day, as per Birmingham Live, which declared that Gibbs ‘has experienced a particularly injury-hit season this term,’ back in January

Hatfield brought up Gibbs’ latest injury during the latest edition of the Baggies Broadcast podcast, saying that this is “yet another injury to add to the list for him,” before questioning how long this injury may rule him out for.

Masi then shared his thoughts on the 30-year-old’s latest injury setback, saying: “In terms of Kieran Gibbs – again, what else can you say? It’s a similar story all season, he’s just been absolutely blighted by injuries, same hamstring issue.”

The journalist went on to say: “There isn’t anyone listening to this who will question his quality. Everyone knows he’s top-drawer – especially in the Championship and everyone probably thinks he’s a Premier League left-back, as well.

“I don’t know what you can say about it, I feel bad about it, I get no pleasure from saying you can’t rely on someone, but you’ve seen it with other players in the past who cannot put that extended run of games together.

“There’s nothing anyone would like more than for him to prove everyone wrong, but you do expect it with him, unfortunately. It’s just a shame, it’s very, very sad.”

TIF Thoughts…

Due to his ‘injury-hit season,’ Gibbs, who is currently valued at £2.88m according to Transfermarkt, has missed extended periods of Championship football this term for the Baggies, leading to him appearing in just 14 of West Brom’s 41 league games. With that in mind, it may be understandable why Masi has shared that he believes the former England international may be unreliable at present, regardless of his quality.
