Leeds United have recently been credited with an interest in Gent forward Jonathan David – and it now appears that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have made a ‘much better’ for the forward than potential suitors Lille.

The Pro League club’s chairman, Ivan de Witte, spoke to Belgian news outlet De Zondag, about the interest being shown in the 20-year-old this summer. He mainly discussed Lille’s approach for the young striker, but suggested that as it stands, Leeds are among those to have offered better proposals than the Ligue 1 side.

Nice easy one to start off with, from which club did Leeds sign Hernandez?

He said, (as per Sport Witness):

“A few weeks ago it still sounded loud that he only wants to go to the Bundesliga and now he necessarily wants to go to France… isn’t that really bizarre? As if Lille would be such a great step forward for Jonathan. Is one then thinking of the player’s career? The contacts were stopped this week, but other clubs are still interested. With much better proposals even. Including Leeds.”

TIF Thoughts…

The Canadian international enjoyed a superb season with Gent; contributing 18 goals in 27 top-flight appearances (per WhoScored), which helped Jess Thorup’s side to a second-place finish. The youngster is currently valued at £20.25 million by Transfermarkt, suggesting that it would be an expensive signing for the Whites to make.

Do you want to see Leeds sign David this summer?

No

However, with the Yorkshire club having just been promoted back to the top flight, they will surely want to make the necessary additions to ensure that they have the best chance of staying there, and considering David’s goalscoring exploits last season, you could argue that he would certainly add an attacking threat should he join Leeds this summer.
