On the most recent edition of the Talking Shutt podcast, the panel spent some time discussing reports linking the Whites with Joe Gelhardt of Wigan Athletic.
It has been reported that the Whites are ‘keen admirers’ of the 18-year-old Wigan attacker, who has scored one goal in his 20 appearances in all competitions for the Latics since making his senior debut for the club last season.
Host Gary Devonport raised the topic of Leeds’ alleged interest in the player during the most recent edition of the Talking Shutt podcast, saying: “We’re about to, by the sound of things, raid Wigan for Joe Gelhardt, 18-year-old striker, likened to be the next Wayne Rooney.”
The Whites podcaster went on to say: “[He’s played for] England Under-16s, 17s, 18s, he has made a couple of senior appearances for Wigan, [he’s] highly-rated, think Leicester are after him and Liverpool have also been mentioned. There were some pretty iffy-looking photos of him supposedly at Elland Road yesterday, but I don’t really buy it.”

Devonport stated that he’s heard that this season’s Premier League champions Liverpool are said to be interested in the Wigan man, which may be an indication of how highly thought of Gelhardt is. As per the Yorkshire Evening Post, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are all said to be interested in the alleged Leeds target and that competition may make it more difficult for the Whites to secure the forward’s signature, even if the Latics have to ‘seek a quick sale’ due to their present financial difficulties.
