Phil Hay talked about Marcelo Bielsa and other Leeds United-related topics on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show by The Athletic.

Nice easy one to start off with, from which club did Leeds sign Hernandez?

Hay spent a lot of time discussing Bielsa and provided his view on the Argentine and what he brings to the Whites.

Here is what Hay said about Bielsa and what Leeds have gained from appointing him:

“They have taken on somebody, and they’ve taken a head coach, who people are scared of, but scared of in a healthy way.

“A coach who people wouldn’t dare cross, a coach who people wouldn’t dare question.

“Somebody who asks for things, expects things and who people know that if they don’t meet either halfway or meet on his terms, will be very unhappy and will, therefore, cause a problem and I think it’s needed that for 15 years at Leeds.”

It seems as if Hay believes that Bielsa is the type of personality that the club has needed for a long time.

Do you agree with Hay?

Yes, he is exactly what we needed

No, he just got lucky

TIF Thoughts…

One example of Bielsa getting rid of a player who wouldn’t agree to his terms was Pontus Jansson, who was dispensed with last summer.

The Swedish international was sold to Brentford after Bielsa decided that he wasn’t for him, and the Whites brought in Ben White, who was solid and Leeds stormed to promotion as champions of England’s second-tier.

So, his decision on Jansson was justified in the end result.

Leeds will now look to secure Bielsa’s contract, which Hay describes as their main priority (23:50), so it will be interesting to see how that develops in the coming days and weeks.
