Phil Hay, speaking on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show, has revealed the details of Jean-Kevin Augustin’s loan at Elland Road.

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

The Athletic reporter spent quite a bit of time on the Frenchman, who has not extended his loan with the Whites, but will join Leeds permanently if the Whites are promoted to the Premier League.

However, Hay spent a bit of time on the finances of the deal, and this is what he said.

“I couldn’t give you an exact figure, but they’ve certainly been paying a large sum for him, and in many ways, the wage on its own looks astronomical and my understanding is that he’s on pretty close to €93k a week at Leipzig.

“It is a very, very sizeable salary, and it’s a Champions League salary really, it’s top-end wage for a player who had a lot of potential when Leipzig paid £13m to take him from PSG.”

This is a huge wage for Augustin, and though Hay does not reveal how much Leeds were paying for him, he does say it was a large chunk.

TIF Thoughts…

The fact Augustin is on that much money at Leipzig, and he only managed to make three first-team appearances for the Whites totalling 48 minutes on the pitch, makes the deal to bring him to Elland Road look ridiculous.

However, what could be worse is the fact that Leeds are obligated to sign the Frenchman if they are promoted.

Considering the Whites are six points clear of third with six games to go, that is certainly possible.

If this happens, Leeds will have to sign Augustin permanently unless they can find some way out of it, which has been suggested by Hay before.
