In a recent comment made on Twitter, Leeds United correspondent for The Athletic, Phil Hay, discussed the injury of Leeds winger Helder Costa.

While Leeds United’s 1-0 victory over Barnsley on Thursday evening took them a single point away from gaining promotion to the Premier League, there was one downside to the victory, as Helder Costa was substituted in the 49th minute after picking up an injury.

When asked for an update on the health of Costa by a fan on Twitter, Hay confirmed that it was a ‘rib injury’ that the 26-year-old had suffered during the match, and that he was currently ‘being assessed’.

Nice easy one to start off with, from which club did Leeds sign Hernandez?

Costa, who had been on loan at Leeds this season, recently completed a £15.93 million permanent move to the club.

The 26-year-old has so far featured in 43 Championship fixtures for the Whites, missing just one game, over which he has scored four goals and provided four assists for the table toppers, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.72.

However, following a heavy challenge from Barnsley’s Alex Mowatt during the fixture on Thursday, Costa was left requiring treatment and was subsequently unable to continue, having to be stretchered off in what appeared to be considerable discomfort.

TIF Thoughts…

With Leeds still having two fixtures remaining to play this season – despite only needing a point to secure promotion to the Premier League – potentially losing a player who has been so prominent in the Leeds XI this season will undoubtedly be a blow to Bielsa over the club’s next two games.
