According to recent reports, Leeds United are interested in a summer move for Brentford winger Said Benrahma.

The report by Phil Hay and Tom Worville for The Athletic claim that Leeds are ‘admirers’ of the 24-year-old, who arrived at Brentford from Nice in what was a £1.53 million deal back in 2018.

Since then, Benrahma has gone from strength to strength for the west London club, scoring 28 goals and providing 27 assists in his 90 appearances.

Nice easy one to start off with, from which club did Leeds sign Hernandez?

And it has been this season, in particular, when the Algerian has really proven his ability – scoring a remarkable 17 goals and providing nine assists over his 45 Championship appearances from the wing, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.51/10, ranking him as the second tier’s best player in the 2019/20 season of those to make more than one appearance.

His performances have helped the club reach the play-off final against Fulham, however, even if Brentford suffer defeat in that match, it would appear that there is a path to Premier League for Benrahma.

According to the report in The Athletic, Leeds are ‘confident’ Benrahma could be purchased for ‘less than £20 million’ should Brentford fail to secure promotion.

TIF Thoughts…

While the £9.45 million-rated Benrahma is primarily a left-winger, he is adept at playing across the front three, as he has done for Brentford this season.

However, it has to be said that Leeds are fairly well-stocked on the wing, with Pablo Hernandez, Hélder Costa and Ian Poveda all capable of operating from either flank.

Although, with Leeds making the step up to the Premier League next season, it may not be the worst idea for the club to upgrade in the position, and Benrahma would almost certainly do that, judging by this season’s outputs.
