Andy Hinchcliffe appeared on the latest edition of the Sky Sports EFL podcast where he shared some criticism for Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.
Jonathan Oakes, who hosts this podcast, explained that Hinchcliffe and Gary Weaver commentated on Leeds’ 3-0 win over Fulham last weekend at the beginning of this show, before asking Hinchcliffe if he’d gotten down from his “high horse yet after lambasting Patrick Bamford for being on his phone after being subbed”.

Bamford was spotted using his phone after being substituted off the pitch during the Whites’ 3-0 win over Fulham last weekend – a game in which the striker scored the opening goal.
Hinchcliffe responded to Oakes’ question about his reaction to this by saying: “I’m not sure I would use the term lambasting, I think I reacted in the way I did because of the surprise of it.
“You’d maybe think this would happen more and more, again, with people using social media on their phones so much.
“But again, you’ve just been substituted, or if you’re a substitute waiting to come on, you can’t be messing around with your phone. I threw the question to Steve McClaren and he beautifully batted it away and didn’t want to make any comment on it.
“It was just the surprise of seeing a player involved in a game on his phone, I just feel that’s completely unprofessional.”

TIF Thoughts…
While Hinchcliffe may have a point about it being somewhat unprofessional for Bamford to be using his phone during a game as a professional footballer, he had just been substituted off of the pitch and the Whites enjoyed a two-goal lead by the time that Bamford was spotted using his phone during the fixture. Furthermore, as Oakes went on to explain on this podcast, (1:35) Bamford was spotted using his phone during a water break, so the pundit’s criticism of the striker may be a bit over the top and there may be no need to make an issue of it.
