Sheffield Wednesday-focused journalist Dom Howson recently took to Twitter to share some comments that Owls manager Garry Monk recently made regarding the EFL’s announcement detailing their plans to restart the 2019/20 Championship campaign.
Last weekend, the EFL revealed that they have decided to proceed with plans to restart the 2019/20 Championship season on the weekend of 20th June. As per Howson’s tweet, Monk recently spoke to the media to whom he shared a critical view of the EFL’s decision to announce plans to resume the season from this date.
Howson quotes the Owls boss as stating that “there was no prior consultation” from the EFL before they announced this return date, which the 41-year-old coach says “was surprising”.
A lot of Wednesday fans have flocked to Howson’s tweet sharing these comments from Monk and there has been a mixed response from many of the Owls supporters who have been replying to this post.
Garry Monk has spoken to the media today.
On the EFL announcement on Sunday night of the June 20 restart date, he said: “We are all taken aback about the return date. There was no prior consultation which was surprising.” #SWFC

Some Owls fans were critical of Monk in response to this tweet, with one taking this opportunity to state that they have got “no confidence at all” in the 41-year-old coach.

How can the players be not ready yet? What have they been doing the past 8 weeks? Ample time to prepare. Monk is has bad as the players!

Did he not suspect that the league might start again fairly soon? It can’t have been a massive surprise @swfc @Owlsonline

However, some Wednesday supporters took this opportunity to criticise the EFL, with one Owls fan declaring that they “are clueless”.
Do you agree with Garry Monk's comments?YESNO |
It’s not surprising at all..The #EFL do their own thing, make their own decisions and send the troops over the top just because they can, similar to the Generals in WW1, it’s easy for them because they are not on the field and are not at risk!
The #EFL are a joke!— Graeme Walker (@GraemeWalker20) June 3, 2020
Too soon to return…

That’s because the EFL are clueless.

In addition to this tweet, Howson recently wrote an article for Yorkshire Live discussing Monk’s comments regarding the EFL’s announcement and this report explains that Monk shared some concerns about the amount of time his team will have to reach their peak fitness levels again before the season resumes.
If it is true that the EFL didn’t consult Championship clubs prior to announcing this restart date, then it may be understandable why Monk has shared that he was “taken aback” by the announcement and it mightn’t be too surprising to see that he has shared some concern over the restart date as a result.
