Sheffield Wednesday-focused Twitter account @TheStarOwls caught the attention of many Owls fans recently after they posted a tweet that included a link to an article that was recently published by the Sheffield Star which shares that Owls midfielder Joey Pelupessy has received a one-year contract extension.
This article explains that Pelupessy’s contract had been set to expire “in a few weeks’ time”, however, the Owls have triggered an option to extend his deal by one year and this will now see him remain at Hillsborough until the end of next season.
This tweet from @TheStarOwls which shares this news has caught the attention of a lot of Wednesday fans who haven’t been shy about sharing their opinions on this development.

We’re never going to go forward and push for any promotion while giving players like him contracts. Just get rid of him

Meanwhile, some of the Wednesday fans who replied to this tweet stated that they feel this is a sign that the Owls are preparing for relegation to League One.
Are you upset about this contract extension?YES, OF COURSENO, I'M NOT |
Think we’re preparing for league 1, shocking
— Paul Holliman (@holliwotsits) June 3, 2020
He might be alright when we’re in League 1?

Pelupessy has made just 12 Championship appearances for the Owls this season, earning an average overall rating of 6.45 from those games according to WhoScored. The 27-year-old Dutchman has earned a lower average overall rating than a total of 18 other Owls players in the league this term.
With that in mind, it may be fair to say that Pelupessy hasn’t been one of Wednesday’s better players this season and it mightn’t come as a surprise that plenty of Owls fans have responded negatively to this news.
