West Brom manager Slaven Bilic provided an update on the status of Matheus Pereira’s permanent move to The Hawthorns during a recent press conference ahead of this weekend’s Championship clash with Birmingham City

As per The Express and Star, the Baggies’ option to sign Matheus Pereira on a permanent deal would have been triggered back in March when West Brom were originally set to take on Birmingham in the Championship, however, the 2019/20 season ended up being postponed before that game could be played, which delayed the Brazilian playmaker’s permanent move to The Hawthorns.

Pereira could have been due for a 30th league start before the season was abruptly halted, which would have activated a clause for the Baggies to secure the midfielder’s permanent transfer for a fee of £8.25m.

The Express and Star has now published an article which shares an update from the Baggies’ Croatian coach Bilic, who commented on Pereira’s transfer status during a recent press conference.

Bilic explained: “He will become our player if he plays on Saturday.” The Baggies boss then goes on to state: “That is very likely to happen, of course, unless something crazy happens, but definitely, we are delighted that it is happening.”

TIF Thoughts…

This update from Bilic regarding Pereira may draw a positive reaction from West Brom’s supporters. Pereira has been one of the Baggies’ most influential players this season, with the Brazilian scoring six goals and providing 12 assists in 33 Championship appearances for the Baggies.

Additionally, the 24-year-old playmaker has earned an average overall rating of 7.34/10 from his 33 league appearances this term and that makes him West Brom’s highest-rated player for the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

With all of this in mind, Baggies fans may be excited by the prospect of seeing more of Pereira at The Hawthorns in the future, after he completes his permanent transfer to the club.
