Celtic legend Chris Sutton has tipped the Hoops to ‘stump up the goods’ and secure the services of Fraser Forster.

Sutton recently wrote a column for the Daily Record and he talked about many things involving his former club. He talked about the club’s decision to let Jonny Hayes and Jozo Simunovic leave, but he also talked about the club’s chase of goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

When talking about Forster, Sutton addressed potential interest from Premier League clubs like Chelsea. He said that there is ‘no way’ that Forster will be the first choice for them and that he might not be looking to play second-fiddle again in his career. Sutton also said that the Hoops will have to ‘stump up the goods’ and if they do, they will sign the Englishman.

Interestingly, the goalkeeper is reportedly valued at £10 million.

Here’s what he had to say on Forster:

“Of course, getting Fraser Forster back and making sure Odsonne Edouard stays are the two key pieces of summer business which must top the planning list.

“Forster is wanted by clubs in England and there is talk of him being a target for a top-four outfit, but there’s no way he’d be replacing the guys between the sticks at those clubs.

“He’d be back-up keeper and, having wasted almost two years of his career on a bench at Southampton, does he really need to be doing that again at this stage of his life?

“Forster is hardly going to tell his grandkids about the day he was wearing a trackie while getting a Champions League medal. Or tell them about the save me made against Stoke’s Under-23 side on a Tuesday night.

“Big games and big pressure at Celtic brings out the best in him and he’ll sign if Celtic stump up the goods. I’m sure of it.”

Would joining Celtic help Forster's career?

TIF Thoughts…

Sutton sounds pretty confident about Celtic’s chances of signing Forster, if they do increase what they’re offering. It has already been reported by the Daily Mail (via Daily Record) that the Hoops are ‘hopeful’ of signing Forster on another loan deal. The Scottish Sun have reported that Celtic are ‘working on a deal’ to keep Forster at Parkhead.

While Chelsea have been linked, Forster was a regular for the Hoops in the 2019/20 season. He made 39 appearances in all competitions, with 28 of them coming in the Premiership. So he would presumably get regular football at Celtic Park and that will only help his career.

Him staying could play a role in helping the club win the tenth Premiership title in a row next season. So there should be little surprise about why Sutton wants the Hoops to sign the Southampton man.
