Ex-Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon appeared on a recent edition of the BBC’s Sportsound podcast and he discussed Celtic’s current goalkeepers during this recent podcast appearance.

During this podcast appearance, Gordon revealed that his Hoops contract expired at the end of May. It has since been revealed that the 37-year-old has re-joined his former club Hearts, who were relegated from Scotland’s top flight when the 2019/20 Scottish football season was cancelled back in May.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

His fellow former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner also appeared on this recent edition of Sportsound and the two former Hoops men spent some time discussing Celtic’s younger goalkeepers.

Bonner said: “[Celtic] haven’t had any young goalkeepers come through the system to get themselves into that position to be able to go and play at Celtic Park under that pressure with that crowd,” before asking the 37-year-old what advice he would give to Celtic’s younger goalkeepers.

Gordon responded to this question by saying: “The young guys that are coming through at the moment at Celtic are very good goalkeepers. Ross Doohan’s been out on loan for two seasons at Ayr United. You’ve got Conor Hazard who’s had a number of loan spells and been quite successful when he’s gone out on loan.

“They’re good goalkeepers, they have the attributes, it’s about mentality now, about when they do get that chance and being able to control their emotions and go out there and do the things that they know they can do, that I’ve seen them do, that the coaches have seen them do day in, day out, for the last number of years.

“They are prepared. They do have the attributes to be able to go out there and do it but it’s the mental side of things and being able to deal with that, being able to deal with making a mistake, by losing a poor goal and still doing the things that they are good at and being able to accept the blame and get on with it.”

Gordon went on to say that while he thinks “It’s going to be very difficult” for these young Hoops ‘keepers to claim Celtic’s number one jersey, he believes that they are: “fantastic goalkeepers in their own right, both Under-21 internationals, and they do have the potential to come through and play games.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering that Gordon has now left the club, his comments on Celtic’s younger goalkeepers may be appreciated by Hoops fans as this may give Celtic supporters confidence that their goalkeeping department might have enough quality in it to not miss Gordon following his departure.
