Premiership champions Celtic reportedly want to keep Craig Gordon at Parkhead, despite St. Mirren being keen on signing the goalkeeper.

The Scottish Sun recently reported that St. Mirren boss Jim Goodwin has made a ‘strong pitch’ for the club to sign Gordon and has promised that the goalkeeper will get first-team football at Paisley. While the offer for the player has been made and he’s weighing up his options, Neil Lennon is still keen on keeping Gordon at Parkhead.

Starting with an easy one: which Italian club did Nakamura join Celtic from?

The report claims that the Hoops are currently working on a deal to make sure that Fraser Forster stays at Parkhead. But other than him, Scott Bain is the only first-team goalkeeper Celtic have in their ranks, should Gordon leave the club.

Gordon hasn’t been a regular for the Hoops this season. He has made only six appearances in all competitions this season and didn’t make a single Premiership appearance (via Transfermarkt).

Should Celtic keep Gordon?

Yes, we should keep him

But in total, Gordon has made 242 appearances in all competitions for Celtic and has kept 121 clean sheets during that time (via Transfermarkt).

He has been at the club since the summer of 2014 and before that, he had played for Sunderland and Hearts as well (via Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Gordon is currently 37 and the fact that he’s not a regular at Parkhead shows that he doesn’t carry too much importance at Celtic. If the Hoops do end up signing Forster, Gordon would presumably not play regularly next season either and that may not help his career at all.

Even without Gordon, Celtic will end up having Forster and Bain as the two goalkeeping options. In that sense, letting Gordon go will be good for the player’s career and won’t harm the Hoops too much at all.
