Former Scotland man Alan Hutton has recently tipped Jeremie Frimpong to attract the attention of Premier League clubs.

Hutton was recently talking to Football Insider in an exclusive interview. And he was asked about Frimpong and his performances for the Hoops in the 2019-20 campaign. Hutton was also asked if Premier League clubs will be keeping an eye on Frimpong’s progress at Parkhead.

Starting with an easy one: which Italian club did Nakamura join Celtic from?

The 35-year-old responded that clubs in the top tier of England will ‘definitely’ keep tabs on the young Dutchman. He revealed that Premier League clubs will be ‘interested’ in seeing how the right-back progresses at Celtic.

Hutton went on to hail Frimpong’s development and compared him to someone who is ‘out in his back garden, playing with his friends’. The former Tottenham player claimed that if the youngster keeps progressing in this way, the ‘only way is up’.

Here’s exactly what he said:

“I think they’ll definitely have an eye on him.

“I think when anybody breaks through to such a strong team and a European team that plays most years, for one so young they’ll always have an eye on him. They’ll definitely have scouts on him and they’ll be interested to see his progression.

“He looks like that young boy who just loves playing football. He looks like he’s out in his back garden, playing with his friends – that’s how it looks.

“He doesn’t seem to feel the pressure, he’s played in cup finals and for one so young, if he keeps going the way he’s going, the only way is up.”

Do you think Frimpong has a Premier League move in him?

TIF Thoughts…

Frimpong had joined Celtic from Manchester City in the summer of 2019. Despite this being his first campaign in the club’s first-team, the Dutchman made 19 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops and contributed to five goals. In the Premiership, he scored two goals and notched up three assists (via Transfermarkt).

He was recently named as the club’s Young Player of the Year award for this season. This clearly shows how he has progressed in a short amount of time at the club. While there has been no concrete speculation about whether Premier League clubs want him, he seems to be heading in the right direction. So Hutton may be right when he says that the ‘only way is up’.
