Grant Holt appeared on a recent edition of the ‘Well Done Michael, He’s 13’ podcast and during this podcast appearance, the ex-Norwich City striker revealed that he “nearly went to Celtic” in 2013.
Holt spent four years at Norwich City, joining the club in July 2009 and departing from Carrow Road in July 2013. The 39-year-old scored 78 goals and provided 36 assists in his 167 appearances for the club.

He discussed his time with the Canaries during his recent appearance on the Well Done Michael, He’s 13 podcast. One of the Norwich-related topics that Holt discussed was his departure from the club and he revealed that he “nearly went to Celtic” in the same summer that he ultimately departed from Carrow Road to move to Wigan Athletic.
Holt said: “I nearly went to Celtic when Gary Hooper came this way [to Norwich]. Gary was coming this way and obviously we wanted to sign him and I kind of chucked my name in the hat and said – ‘Well, I think you want me to leave, I’ll go up to Celtic and do a swap.’
“They wouldn’t do it, they were like ‘no, we want Gary and we want you here’, but in the end they got Gary and I had to leave anyway, so I didn’t really get it.”

TIF Thoughts…
Hooper joined Norwich City in the summer of 2013, with the Canaries spending £5.67m to sign the attacker. Holt departed from the club just over two weeks prior to Hooper’s arrival, joining Wigan Athletic for £1.62m.
Considering that the former Rochdale man has shared that he was aware Hooper would be joining the Canaries, while he also knew that the club wanted him to leave, it may be understandable why he suggested doing a swap deal.
However, considering that Hooper cost Norwich over £4m more than they received for Holt, that may not have been a very good deal for Celtic and it might not be a big surprise that this swap deal never occurred.
