Alberth Elis has revealed he is in talks with ‘several clubs’ as he looks to leave MLS club Houston Dynamo, according to the Daily Record.

The report claims that the 24-year-old was the subject of a Celtic bid last season but the bid was rejected.

Elis joined Houston Dynamo from Monterrey initially on loan and eventually signed for the club on a permanent deal in 2018 reportedly worth £1.98m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). During his time in the United States, he has played 82 times in MLS, scoring 30 times and providing his teammates with 21 assists.

Former Celtic defender and fellow countryman Emilio Izaguirre confirmed that the Scottish giants were looking at the player and that a deal for his transfer could not be agreed (as per the Daily Record). They also go on to report that although the Texan club have offered the winger a new deal, he has made it clear he wishes to move to play in Europe with Stoke City and Fenerbahce also linked.

TIF Thoughts…

Neil Lennon’s side were crowned Scottish champions for the ninth successive time last month but given the impact of the recent global pandemic, it is unclear as to whether or not they will have the transfer funds available to go back in for the Honduran unless they sell.

The Daily Record have quoted the player as saying: “I think I will make the decision that I will leave Houston and give Europe a go.” He added: “There are a few teams we are already talking to in Europe and Houston have also made me a contract offer, a very good one too.”

Based on those comments, it’s clear Elis is desperate to fulfil his dream of playing in Europe, however, he does point out that discussions are ongoing with a number of clubs, therefore, it may not be Celtic Park that he ends up at.
